Web focuses

A Web Focus is a selection of articles on a related theme drawn from the entire Nature Publishing Group family of journals. With content ranging from Research Highlights, Reviews and Perspectives through to primary research papers, a Web Focus provides a panoramic view of a key area of biology.

Web focus on different facets of centromere and telomere biology

The Middle & The End

In 2009 The EMBO Journal review series focuses on different facets of centromere and telomere biology. The specialisation of the centromeres and telomeres, the middle and end regions of eukaryotic chromosomes, respectively, is reflected at numerous levels, such as chromatin, gene regulation, signalling or cellular function. Nine review articles, combined in this web focus series, The Middle & The End, and published in print over several issues of The EMBO Journal, summarise our current understanding of these various aspects of chromosome biology, especially in the light of recent advances, demonstrating parallels as well as differences in the function and organisation of centres and ends.

Focus on Quality Control

This 2008 collection of eight review articles highlights different aspects of cellular quality control and their potential relevance for human diseases. Topics include mitochondrial and ER quality control, protein folding and degradation as well as quality control in RNA and DNA metabolism. The online presentation of this focus comprises the review articles including downloadable figures for teaching purposes, as well as links to relevant related research articles published in The EMBO Journal.

Modeling the early stages of vascular network assembly

Focus on Imaging

This review series highlights imaging of biological membranes, the dynamics of protein structure, gene expression, cell polarity and cell migration — accompanied by a selection of movies from our archive, linked to the articles in which they originally appeared.
