A herd of Burchells zebras is haunted by elephants at one of the few remaining waterholes in the bed of the Boteti River during the dry season. These waterholes are frequently visited by animals in the course of the cyclic migrations of wildebeests and zebras. The Boteti River forms the western border of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park in Botswana. Historically serving as a conduit of water from the Okavango delta to the Makgadikgadi pans, the river bed has now been dry for several years. The photograph was taken by Jan Postberg from the University of Witten/Herdecke, Germany.
