About the editors
Frank Gannon - Senior Editor
EmboReports@embo.org

Frank is the Director General of Science Foundation Ireland and is a senior scientist at the EMBL in Heidelberg, with an active research group working on the estrogen receptor. He was the driving force behind the launch of EMBO reports in 2000 and remains actively involved in its production, writing most of the editorials and providing editorial feedback for all sections of the journal.

Barbara Pauly - Science Editor
Coordinates and edits Scientific Reports section content
pauly@embo.org

Barbara completed her PhD at the University of Munich, focusing on signal transduction in the fresh water polyp Hydra. She then went to the University of California at Berkeley to work on the role of the actin cytoskeleton in endocytosis in mammalian cells. She joined EMBO reports as an editor in September 2008.

Esther Schnapp - Science Editor
Coordinates and edits Scientific Reports section content
esther.schnapp@embo.org

Esther studied signaling pathways underlying tail regeneration in the axolotl, a mexican salamander, at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, where she was awarded her PhD in 2005. She then performed her postdoctoral work on muscle development in the zebrafish and on the characterization of mesoangioblasts at the Stem Cell Research Institute of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy. Esther joined EMBO reports as scientific editor in October 2008.

Nonia Pariente - Science Editor
Coordinates and edits Reviews and Scientific Reports section content
pariente@embo.org

Nonia studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Madrid's Autónoma University, where she also completed her Ph.D. on new antiviral strategies that exploit the error-prone replication of RNA viruses. She then worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of California Los Angeles from 2004 to 2007, where she focused on the development of lentiviral vectors for gene therapy. Nonia joined EMBO reports as Reviews Editor in August 2007.

Holger Breithaupt - News Editor
Coordinates and edits Science & Society articles
Holger.Breithaupt@embo.org

Holger studied biology and computer sciences at the University of Cologne where he received his undergraduate degree from the Institute of Botany. After he earned his Ph.D. at the University of Düsseldorf's Institute of Enzyme Technology, he studied science journalism at New York University's Science and Environmental Reporting Program. Holger worked as a freelance journalist before he joined EMBO reports as News Editor in March 2000.

Samuel Caddick - Assistant Editor
Edits Reviews and Science & Society articles, and coordinates Book Reviews
caddick@embo.org

Samuel read molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology and ecology at the University of East Anglia for his BSc (hons), which he completed in 2001. He was awarded his PhD in plant molecular biology and biochemistry by the same institution in 2005, and continued his research into inositol phosphate kinases and pathways of inositol hexakisphosphate metabolism as a post-doctoral researcher in the same laboratory. Samuel joined EMBO reports as Assistant Editor in April 2007.
