I am delighted that NASA and ESA scientists will continue to make measurements on the Sun - the star that controls Earth's climate, sustains life, and serves as a model for other stars in the cosmos. They are unfortunately in for a rude awakening! For almost five decades they have insisted that the Sun is a ball of hydrogen and ignored data from space-age measurements which clearly showed that the Sun is the iron-rich remnant that re-formed on a neutron star, after exploding in this manner five (5) billion years ago [ http://www.omatumr.com/Origin.htm ] and ejecting all of the material that now orbits around the Sun as planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. I urge NASA and ESA scientists to read, criticize, or at least acknowledge the existence of peer-reviewed papers that summarize the experimental data. http://www.omatumr.com/abstracts/gong-2002.pdf http://www.omatumr.com/abstracts2005/Fk01.pdf http://arxiv.org/ftp/astro-ph/papers/0609/0609509.pdf http://arxiv.org/ftp/astro-ph/papers/0510/0510001.pdf Experimental data are shown in the following links: http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1960Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1972Data1.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1972Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1975Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1976Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1983Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1991Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1993Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1994Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1996Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/1998Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/2000Data.htm http://www.omatumr.com/Data/2005Data.htm With kind regards, Oliver K. NASA and ESA should address the experimental data that have accumulated since 1960 (above) before receiving additional public funds to explore "the superstar" at the heart of the Solar System. For example, about one billion dollars ($1,000,000,000) was spent on the Galileo probe to Jupiter. The measurements revealed a large excess of Xe-136 (35% more than the Sun) -- http://www.omatumr.com/abstracts2001/windleranalysis.pdf -- thus confirming Apollo lunar data which showed that the Sun is iron-rich http://www.omatumr.com/archive/SolarAbundances.pdf Another large sum of public funds were used for the SOHO and TRACE spacecraft that recorded this movie of a solar flare being ejected from an active, iron-rich, mountainous region below the hydrogen-rich solar photosphere: http://trace.lmsal.com/POD/movies/T171_000828.avi Supplementary funding to explore the Sun should be restricted to scientists and space agencies that addressed, rather than ignored, these unexpected findings of earlier space missions. Most importantly, Solar Probe Plus should also probe for the electron-antineutrino flux emanating from the solar corona. It is hereby predicted that the particle count here would be comparable to that of the proton (or electron). This would unequivocally attest to the fact that THE SUN IS A FISSION REACTOR - with ramifications that would be truly and literally cosmic. The two mysteries - why the corona is so much hotter than the 6,000-degree surface of the Sun; and how, in this region, the solar wind is accelerated to supersonic speeds - become all too simple and straightforward; see: www.sittampalam.net/TheSun.htm Thank you. Cheers!
One recently published work suggests that âthe solar periodic activity is due to a feedback from the energy transfer between the heliospheric magnetic flux and the planetary magnetospheresâ, mainly those of Jupiter and Saturn. The author has produced an equation linking the sunspot cycle to the orbital parameters of the two major planets as well as managed to isolate a sunspot sub-cycle with period of 1.092 years, which represents the Earth â Jupiter magnetospheres synodic period. Even more surprisingly it is suggested that the regular magnetic polarity switch, known as the Hale cycle, is just a solar surface magnetic effect and that the Sun has a fixed polarity dynamo in its interior, which would be logical if âthe Sun is the iron-rich remnant that re-formed on a neutron starâ as suggested by Professor Manuel in his comments above. It is hoped that the Solar Probe Plus will be able to provide answers to some of the more puzzling solar properties and events.
