The future for Howard Hughes

Robert Tjian speaks to Nature about his plans as the new president of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Robert Tjian is a biochemist and molecular biologist at the University of California, Berkeley, who has made significant discoveries about DNA transcription factors. He co-founded the biotechnology company Tularik, which was sold in 2003 for US$1.
