China rushes through major funding system
Medical researchers hurry to hit deadline for megaproject cash.
Next month, China will start pouring money into two long-awaited 'megaprojects' in infectious disease and drug discovery. But although scientists welcome the funding bonanza, many criticize how it is being administered — especially because, after waiting more than two years for the announcement, scientists were given only a few weeks to apply.

Mega project may not yield mega achievement. Big money may not lead to big discovery. Please do not forget the still very fresh lesson of the iPS National Research Project in Japan. Has Yamanaka produced anything after became a leader in a mega project and was given so much money? Shi V.
