Cucumber genome sequence
Article by Sanwen HuangJun Wang and colleagues report the genome sequence of the cucumber. The cucumber genome is the seventh plant genome sequence to be reported and was assembled with a combination of traditional Sanger and next-generation sequencing methods.

Comparative analysis of Mycobacterium leprae
Article by Marc MonotStuart Cole and colleagues report genome sequences and comparative analyses of multiple strains of Mycobacterium leprae, the etiologial agent of leprosy. They define 16 sub-types of M. leprae and examine their geographical distribution.

Microduplications and schizophrenia
Letter by Shane McCarthyJonathan Sebat and colleagues report the association of microduplication on chromosome 16p11.2 with schizophrenia, whereas the reciprocal microdeletion was associated with autism and developmental disorders.

Activating mutations in testicular tumors
Letter by Anne GorielyAndrew Wilkie and colleagues report that activating paternal-effect mutations in FGFR3 and HRAS promote clonal expansion in the testis, leading to spermatocytic seminomas.

Allelic expression analysis
Article by Bing GeTomi Pastinen and colleagues report a genome-wide analysis of variation in relative expression between two allelic transcripts (allelic expression) in lymphoblastoid cell lines from HapMap individuals. This approach identified common cis variants affecting 30% of the measured RefSeq transcripts. These data are a resource to facilitate fine mapping of cis-regulatory SNPs.

Xuejun Zhang and colleagues report results of a genome-wide association study of systemic lupus erythematosus in a Chinese Han population. In a separate study, Robert Graham and colleagues report results of a large-scale replication study for systemic lupus erythematosus in individuals of European ancestry.
