| Inflammation is required for fighting infection and for long-term health. Although papers documenting the processes that lead to the activation of inflammatory responses have been published since the beginning of modern science, it was only recently that the focus shifted to processes that regulate the resolution of inflammation. With the help from experts in diverse fields of immunology, we have assembled an annotated list of classic papers that document seminal contributions to the understanding of both inflammation and the processes that are central to dampening inflammation. We gratefully acknowledge the following people for their help in selecting these landmark papers: Ronan Alon, K. Frank Austen, Bruce Beutler, Jeffery Bluestone, Donald Cook, Derek Gilroy, Klaus Ley, Ruslan Medzhitov, Seth Rakoff-Nahoum, Steven Rosen, John Savill, Charles Serhan, Takao Shimizu, Art Silverstein, Ulrich von Andrian and Carl Ware. |
