Twenty years on
The discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) twenty years ago has led to unprecedented advances in the science, understanding viral pathogenesis, host/virus interactions, and immune responses to infection – as well as in drug discovery and antiretroviral therapy.As institutions engaged in conducting or funding HIV/AIDS research and prevention, we are proud to be associated with this very special issue of Nature Medicine commemorating 20 years of HIV science.
