Reprints of their published manuscript are available to authors of papers from any Nature Publishing Group journal in quantities ranging from 100 to 500. For orders above 500 reprints please refer to the section on commercial reprints. Author reprints are available in black and white or in colour, and as printed copies or encrypted PDF files. Types of author reprint
Standard author reprints
Standard author reprints are an exact replica of the article as it appears in the published journal. Depending on the journal, standard reprints may also have a separate cover. Please contact author-reprints@nature.com for further information.
Custom author reprints
For some NPG journals authors may personalize their reprints with the addition of a cover (where not offered as standard), company or institution's logo, or extra information. Please contact author-reprints@nature.com for further information.
E-prints
An e-print is an encrypted PDF of a paper that can be hosted on a web site for download by multiple users. E-prints are sold on the basis of a certain number of downloads or a period of time, and the purchaser is alerted once this limit has been reached. E-prints are print-enabled, allowing users to print the PDF once on each PC. The provided PDF link can be emailed or burned onto CD-ROMs.

Author reprint ordering options
Pre-publication author reprints or "offprints"
Most authors place an order for reprints before their article has been published, using the forms provided by the journal's editorial office on acceptance of their manuscript. If you are an author and you have not received a pre-publication reprint order form please contact the appropriate NPG representative.
Post-publication author reprints
Authors can also order reprints after publication of their article. This can be done electronically for some NPG journals (see below). Otherwise, please contact author-reprints@nature.com.
