Abstract
Some athletes diagnosed with a genetic heart condition are banned from competitive sport. Laura Spinney discovers how they are fighting for the right to run the risk of death.
Domenico Fioravanti won two gold medals at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 — for the men's 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke. But when he goes to Athens this year, it will be as a television commentator, not as a competitor.
