Journal Information

Nature Reviews Biodiversity is a new online-only Reviews journal, publishing monthly issues starting in January 2025.

Aims & Scope

We are interested in synthesizing the latest advances in research spanning all aspects of biodiversity-related science, including conservation, ecology, and evolution. The reciprocal relationship between humans and nature is also featured. We aim to publish clearly written and well-illustrated content, and editors work closely with authors to maximize the usefulness and impact of each article. The journal publishes Reviews, Perspectives, Comments, and other formats, with our broad scope  ensuring that articles reach the widest possible audience.

Nature Reviews Biodiversity is part of the Nature Reviews portfolio of journals. To learn more about Nature Reviews, check out this animation and the Nature Reviews page. You can also find a summary of the editorial input and checks here.

Online Publication
Nature Reviews Biodiversity is an exclusively online-only publication. Articles are published using an Advanced Online Publication process, giving our authors an earlier publication date and allowing our readers to access papers several weeks before they appear in a specific issue. Note that papers published online are definitive and may be altered only through the publication of an Addendum or Correction, so authors should make every effort to ensure that the page proofs are correct.

Content types

We publish a range of content types, including Reviews and Perspectives, along with Comments, Viewpoints and other formats that will elaborate on significant advances and other topical issues in biodiversity science.

How we work

Our team of in-house editors, art editors, production editors and proofreaders work together with authors to produce authoritative, accessible, high-quality articles; see a visual summary of the editorial process.

While the majority of content (see above for content types) in Nature Reviews Biodiversity will be commissioned by our editors, we do welcome proposals.
